Dan Walters – President and Owner
Dan Walters, President and owner started MDM Construction in January 2009, specializing in government contracting with a focus on working with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dan is a North Dakota State University alumni where he studied Facilities Management and a North Dakota Native and a Military Veteran who served 20 years in the North Dakota Army National Guard including 2 deployments to Kosovo in 2000 and Iraq in 2003 and 2004.
Mr. Walters gained his construction experience through years as an engineer in the military and working construction from a young age. He started working in concrete and heavy construction while in high school and worked every aspect of construction hands on through college, gaining knowledge of multiple trades.
After college at NDSU Mr. Walters went to work in the residential construction field in Minneapolis, MN. In 2006 he and his family moved back to Fargo and started working commercial construction where he spent a considerable amount of time working on projects at the Fargo VA. Enjoying the work at the VA hospital, and taking a sense of pride in helping fellow veterans. In 2009, Mr. Walters applied his knowledge of construction and business and started his own company, MDM Construction LLC.
Since starting MDM in 2009, Mr. Walters has grown his company to competing on multiple VA Contracts across the Midwest region. MDM Construction employs staff in 5 states working with multiple government agencies to include, the Department of Veterans Affairs, The US Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of the Air Force, the General Services Administration and the US Department of Agriculture.
Mr. Walters and his family resided in Horace, ND and after retiring from the military completely in 2015 he has put his focus to growing his business. Since 2010 MDM has completed nearly 25 million dollars in government contracts and continues to expand in the government and private side of construction through relationships and an amazing staff.
Trent Hagen – Senior Project Manager
Trent Hagen is a North Dakota native and has been with MDM as a Project Manager since May 2015. Trent has worked in construction for 9 years prior to joining MDM doing labor, estimating, procurements, fabricating, scheduling, and project management. This prior experience covers residential, commercial, educational, agricultural, military, state government, and federal government work sectors. He also served as Carpentry Masonry Specialists with the North Dakota Army National Guard and Army Corps. Of Engineers for 6 years working on projects in ND, MN, GA, and MS.
During the years of 2018-2020, Trent worked in the Los Angeles, CA area working on construction projects for the General Service Administration and Drug Enforcement Agency as a Construction Manager. During this time, Trent acted as the owners’ representative and consultant overseeing General Contractors in both the field and all office management facets including inspections, safety, and overall contract adherence.
During his time with the military, Trent graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND with a Bachelors in Construction Management and a minor in Business Administration. Lastly, Trent has completed his certifications for Construction Quality Management (QCM) along with both OSHA 10-hour and OSHA 30-hour courses.
Joel Bornhoft - Project Manager
Joel Bornhoft brings over 25 years of construction background to MDM Construction, beginning with his journey as a carpenter within the United States Navy.
As SSHO he maintained site safety, coordinate work with all subcontractors and assist with the resolution of daily construction issues to ensure all safety protocols were implemented and continued throughout project completion. Responsibilities as project manager include issues resolution and management of construction costs, budgets, contractors, stake holders, A/E design team and staff personnel. Joel reviews and estimates project design documents prior to bid, set construction budgets, maintain projects per contract documents, specifications, budgets and schedules. Joel has his OSHA 30-hour certification.Kari Hazer – Office Manager
Kari Hazer joined MDM as Office Manager in August 2015. Kari has in excess of twenty (20) years of experience in the construction industry including roles entailing maintenance of project files, project correspondence and record keeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, human resources, quality control and safety maintenance and management and compliance with industry regulations. Kari has interacted with numerous government agencies including the US Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Defense, Department of the Air Force, Department of Veterans Affairs, US Department of Agriculture, General Services Administration and North Dakota Air National Guard and is competent in the required record keeping for each of these agencies.
Kari graduated from the University of Mary with a Bachelors in Business Management. She is certified by the National Safety Council as both a First Aid Instructor and a Defensive Driving Course instructor. Kari has received her Construction Quality Management (QCM) certification through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as well as OSHA 10-hour and OSHA 30-hour certifications.
Callie Croaker – Contract Administrator
Callie is a North Dakota native who joined MDM as a Contract Administrator in November, 2020. Callie brings over 10 years of experience in the administrative field to MDM, including maintaining project files, expenses, departmental supervisor, and corporate account management.
Callie graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelors in Psychology.Superintendents
