Outdoor Healing Garden at the Fargo VA Medical Center
Located: Fargo, ND VA Hospital
Owner: Dept. of Veterans Affairs
Contract Awarded: May 2015
Project Duration: 2 Years
Project Value: $890,500
MDM Construction LLC served as the General Contractor for this outdoor project. This project was to add a garden to be used by the patients as a rehabilitation area. It also serves as a parade ground for VA events. The area started as a flat grassed area with a flagpole. The project added sidewalks, patios, masonry seat walls, gardens, lights, many plants, furniture, decorative columns and steel.
To complete this project first work to be done was rerouting and installing utility lines along with earth working. Following work items included site grading, concrete (regular and colored), decorative stone veneer, pavers, steel erection, column cover construction, hydro seeding, plantings, mulching, electrical, and irrigation.
As this was an outdoor project near a main entrance for the VA Hospital, safety and security were a top priority. Keeping all construction materials and debris inside the jobsite to allow for access for the project duration was maintained daily. Site fencing and police services were in place to keep unauthorized people off site for their safety and project completion.
